Log: All The Small Things

Who: Wash (OU) and you!
What: Wash has completed his first job as a mercenary and is out to celebrate it
Where: Out and about in town, picking up some better equipment, and then to the Eagle and Asp for a drink
When: Afternoon to night 29/11
Warnings: None so far

It hadn't been the most glamorous of jobs, but any notion of glamour had been beaten out of him practically the day he'd enlisted. The important thing was that his first job as a registered mercenary had gone well and that was the first step to being able to take care of himself without having to rely on other people. Sure, it would take a few more jobs before he felt comfortable, but it was a start.

That was cause enough for celebration, right?

His first step is to head out to a supplier to stock up on equipment. Nothing fancy for now, but enough to get him started. A good gun or two, and a solid combat knife.

There's other things that he needs, an almost overwhelming amount, he realises now that he has the money to start thinking about it. Clothes that aren't fatigues or armour, and there's so many different kinds that it takes him far longer than it should to pick out what he needs.

And once that's done, he heads to the Eagle and Asp for a drink. It feels appropriate somehow.

Well... no one said it was easy. Delta frowns and considers the man very seriously. This isn't going to be the most fun, but he thinks he has a rough idea of size.

But he can't be certain. Even if he's got a good idea on length, waist is harder. He selects a few sizes which make sense to him and hands them over. "Come on, you're going to try these on to give us an idea of size."

There's a look of faint horror on his face when the guy says he has to try things on. He'd just intended to grab a few things and deal with it if they didn't fit.

"Right. Changing rooms." He wasn't dropping his pants in the middle of the store. He didn't have much sense of modesty after sharing shower blocks with his team, but that didn't mean he wanted to give a show.

He takes the offered clothing and all but bolts towards the changing rooms. He changes as quickly as he can, trying them on until he finds some that feel the right size. Not too loose, but not restrictively tight. He returns with the one that fits. "This seems to be the right size."

Delta smiles and takes the one Wash says fits and inspects it for size before he nods and looks over a few more things. He selects a few pairs of dark pants, even in slightly different styles and hands these over to Wash.

"You can try these on to see if you like them. Or you can just take them."

"As long as they fit, it's all the same to me," Wash replies. He's got not even the barest concept of fashion on this planet. He does give the man a small smile though. "I appreciate your help. It's been a long time since I had to deal with any of this."

His smile finds Delta smiling back, a bit softly. Just a small thing, but it is a smile.

"No problem. I do this a LOT for my family. Seven siblings, though some are old enough to shop on their own these days. Being a parent is hard, though. Now... are you looking into shirts for right now, and if so, would it be dress, t-shirt, or something dress-casual? I don't know what security wants."

"I had sisters," Wash says. "You have my sympathy for dealing with that." He remembers how crazy shopping trips with his mother had got when she had all of them in tow. "I'm probably going to grab some t-shirts. Maybe something more dress-casual, just in case. A backup."

"Well, at least you weren't dealing with a teen that insists on spreading conspiracy theories," Delta chuckles. "Now, would you like help with that shirt now, or will this suit you for the moment?"

Truth be told, he'd happily keep dressing the man. Shoes, socks, maybe a tie.

"There is that," Wash replies warmly. "Might as well go all out if you're sure you aren't busy." The better he gets things done now, the less time he has to spend on this stuff later. At least he'll have an idea of what to look for.

"It works for me," Delta smiles at him. "But to do that, I would recommend you go get a shopping cart. Let's see if we can't get you as set up as possible. What's your monetary constraints? That will tell me just how much further we can go."

This is the most delightful distraction for him.

"I've got a few hundred to spend. I can stretch since I'm just setting up." He had enough to get the basics at least, to feed himself, get clothes. "I budgeted for relocation." That was probably the easiest way to explain it.

"So... a good pair of shoes, some socks, a pair of shirts, and I think I can leave you to finish with undergarments and belts on your own, yes?" Delta says thoughtfully. No doubt this man should do well.

"I think I can manage that much," Wash agrees. "That sounds like enough to keep me going with for a good while." At least until he needed more specific clothing for jobs.

"I like to prepare people the best I can," Delta smiles as he guides them to shirts. Charcoal gray he thinks. Maybe a slight, dark blue cast to it. Maybe not. He hasn't decided yet. He doesn't even wait for Wash to follow, just selects a few items. One a nice, clingy dark gray that is just this side of black with long sleeves. Another a more steely gray in the form of a light sweater, and he rounds it out with a pair of middling gray dress shirts. All of these he hands over to Wash.

"Try these next."

"Preparation is vital for a successful mission," Wash says, smiling back and then following after Delta as he heads towards the shirts.

He would have taken forever trying to find something, baffled by the array, or would possibly have just grabbed the first couple that he came to and hoped. He takes the offered shirts. They do match his helmet, and the scarf. And he thinks they'll look good. "Are you sure you don't do this professionally?"

"Seven siblings. I suppose more or less it is professional," he laughs, shaking his head. "Well, six. I stopped trying to make Omega look good a long time ago."

Omega. Is this... There's that prickle of familiarity again, something about the voice. Which one though? Theta and Alpha he's met. Not Omega. Sigma? Possibly. Delta? Maybe Gamma.

Or he could be paranoid and Omega could be a normal name here, but he doesn't think so.

"I can't even imagine shopping for that many people. I can barely manage myself."

"Most of my siblings can't manage themselves either, but some of them have the defense of being children," he laughs, shaking his head. His green eyes flash with amusement.

"Some of them are old enough to do it on their own. But mostly, they're messes. I get to make people look good. So no, not a professional. Just... an experienced amateur looking for some fun. And you're entertaining me."

"Yeah well, not everyone has a big brother to teach them what actually looks good," Wash replies, giving him a brief smile.

"I'm glad I can be entertaining. You're saving me a hell of a lot of time and grief so it evens out."

"I sure don't," Delta laughs. "Omega's fashion sense doesn't exist. Now go try those on and come back, alright? And comes out between each so I can see them on you."

"Okay." He drapes the shirts and the sweater over his arm and turns back into the changing room. He changes as quickly as he can into the first shirt, a grey one, and then steps back out.

"Well?"

For a moment Delta's mind screams 'look away' because the way that shirt fits is wonderful. Not too tight, but tight enough to betray the fact that the man is definitely fit. Just a bit of muscle movement under the just clingy enough to be perfect for Errera garment, just the right sort of outline for his shoulders. But he doesn't look away because dammit he's helping this guy, which is what he's supposed to be doing.

"It's very good on you. Quite flattering actually. Of course the problem with it is that security, I imagine, is supposed to blend in a bit, and that shirt is most definitely going to have attention on you. Positive attention I assure you, but attention nonetheless."

He's staring. Is that a good stare, or a bad stare? He doesn't know the guy well enough to tell and it leaves him standing there a little self-consciously while he waits for the verdict.

He plucks at the sleeve, glancing down at himself when Delta says that it looks good. "I could probably stretch to get something that looks good for going out in," he says finally. The point is to look like a normal person. If he goes to the bar, it would be good to have the option of looking like hat.

"Well, you're going to look good in that," Delta smiles and shakes his head. "Wear the tighter jeans with them. Maybe carry a stick to beat people away from you with."

Yeah, he's going to look great. Wow. Delta looks away a bit. "You should try on the next one."

Spare him being too good at his helping out here.

"I think you're going a bit overboard there," Wash says, just a little awkward by the implication. He's pretty sure his usualy demeanour makes sure that people don't want to come near him.

He nods and goes to try on the sweater next, and once more comes out for Delta's approval.

See, that's more appropriate. Sure, it outlines his shoulders which are nice and other than that he's quite happy with a bit of the way it hangs off of him. Good.

Delta smiles warmly at that look. "Very good. I think that's going to do good for you. I can already tell the tailored shirt would be perfectly good."

He doesn't think he can handle that on him. "I think it's going well with this."
