There are times where no matter how hard she tries, things just don't go her way. She'd thought the open air markets had been a good place a few days ago. She'd lifted money from some people, had food with others, and so despite her normal reservations, she opted to repeat the trip.

First rule of thieving: don't hit the same place twice in a short period of time.

Abby should have remembered that. Today she hasn't. Today is one epic failure after another, and if not for the fact that she needs to eat tonight, she'd probably give up, throw in the towel, and slink back to her safe spot.

Instead she's rushing through the crowd, trying not to get caught by the man searching for her, much less relinquish her pathetic take for the day.

"Hey, I'm not dumb," Abby protests around another mouthful. "Last time I hit customers. Today I was hitting merchants."

There is a very specific rules for hitting people, and she follows them.

'Well I'd advise moving to a different market for a couple of weeks,' he says. 'There's one just on the other side of the city centre.'

"It was my plan for tomorrow," she sighs. "Don't know. Maybe I should lay low for a few days."

She's old enough to look into new lines of work too. Ones where people have your back... But the idea makes her shudder. So she just finishes her pastry.

'Good. And yeah, laying low sounds good. You got a stash to keep you covered?' York always had backup food while he was travelling in case he couldn't get money for a meal that day.

"Not much of one," Abby admits. Thus today's work. She needs to rebuild her fall back. But a few lean days won't kill her.

'How long will it last you?' It would be best if she laid low for a few days, but if her rations are short, that might not be possible.

"Few days if I stretch it," she admits.

HE... may not know the streets as well, but he at least seems to get what matters. "I know a way into a school, so I can lift a bit there."

'School?' He rubs the back of his neck, thinking of Gamma and Theta. 'Okay, I guess that works.'

"No one watches food supply levels at schools," she answers, grinning. Great idea, right?

"You just have to remember to steal from different future meals."

One person stealing food for themselves isn't going to have a massiv impact on the amount of food there.

'Yeah, that's a good plan. Done it before?'

"Since I dropped out," she answers. Figures she owes him a few truths that she otherwise wouldn't part with.

He has saved her.

He nods and doesn't question further, though he very much wants to. 'Well, it's food, and it sounds fairly easy to get.'

"Not easy. Just not impossible," she answers. "Break in once every few days. Get me and my stuff clean."

'Showers, right? Good call.' She really has thought this through. Good for her, it'll increase her chances.

"You get into better places if you're clean, and people don't scream 'street rat' as loud if you don't smell," she says with a shrug. Makes sense, right?

"Besides, I'm to cute not to be clean."

'That's true. Both of those are true, you're very cute.' He finishes his pastry and reaches out to boop her on the nose. 'Hygienic too.'

Abby giggles, backing off a bit before putting on her helmet.

"Thanks a lot, hero-man."

'It's York,' he corrects, donning his own helmet. 'But I'm not gonna complain if you want to call me "hero-man".'

"Sure it is, Hero-man," she laughs, walking away.

York grins, shaking his head. 'See you around, kid.'
