Omega gets to the bar before Tex, and he saves her a seat again. He orders himself a scotch, and for her the tequila she was drinking last time.

And then he waits his turn for her attention.

If she didn't get to make that choice, is Omega supposed to stick to demolitions and medicine, like how Sigma and Epsilon are supposed to stay school and get jobs they actually like? Or is Omega supposed to do what she does, be more like her?

That's what's most important. To make her proud, like it's important to make Alpha proud.

"Already chose," Omega says. "That building wasn't empty. And at the least, if I show up to stop someone from bleeding out on the floor, I doubt whoever shot them is going to stop and verify my feelings on the matter."

She nods. If that's what he wants to do then she will help him.

"I'll buy you your first gun then. Once you've tried out a few and settle on a preference. You can keep it locked up in your room on base so it doesn't have to go home."

[baruthumos]

"I don't think I'd want one around the kids. They can't get at it if it's not in the house." Omega doesn't know what sort of gun he'd like beyond "small." Or some sort of bomb-thrower, but that could get awkward to carry around.

"That's fine. What have you been doing in your firearms training with Maine?" she asks. She's seen some of their work together, but Maine's taken point on Omega's training.

[baruthumos]

"Everything, almost," Omega says. He doesn't try the bruteshot. "I'm better with the small ones, though, that might just be a matter of practicing."

[soldierinblack]

"It takes some practice," she says. "I'll help you figure out how to handle a rifle."

[baruthumos]

"Thank you," Omega says. "They all kick so differently. I think I need to just pick one and get used to it, but if I don't try them all, how do I pick?"

[soldierinblack]

"We have an armory on base. We'll go through there and make sure you've tried everything." This is one training activity she more than loves doing.

"Okay. You know who I think needs a gun?" Omega hopes Tex agrees with him on this. "Epsilon."

[soldierinblack]

"Only if he's willing to go through the training for it," she answers flatly. "But yeah, he does. Especially if he's going to be taking on dangerous jobs he shouldn't."

[baruthumos]

"Proper training is a given," Omega says. "I wish he wouldn't wander. But if he's going to, he should be protected."

[soldierinblack]

"Could get him a taser instead," she suggests. "To tide him over until he can have a sidearm."

[baruthumos]

"That could work. Do they scare people like seeing guns does?" Omega's never been hit by a taser, though it was a near thing a couple times when he was a teenager, when he'd break back in the house.

[soldierinblack]

She shakes her head. "If they're smart it does. But you shouldn't need to scare them with it, just jab them if they try to come at you. Nonlethal so he doesn't have to worry about killing someone."

[baruthumos]

"True, though I was thinking more the sight of it would deter people. But he might like that better."

Tasers can kill people, but Omega doesn't think those people are likely to jump his brother.

[soldierinblack]

"Sight might deter them, but he'd also have to be ready to pull the trigger if he had to." And that isn't an action done unless Epsilon is ready to accept that killing someone could happen from that.

"See what he'd be comfortable with and we'll go from there."

[baruthumos]

"True, true. I'll ask him." Omega grins suddenly. "Or you could. I bet he'd like that."

He should share Tex. Because he's the oldest. It's his job to make sure everyone has a fair turn.

[soldierinblack]

"I will after Delta's surgery. We don't need a bunch of crap going on at once. How is he healing?" Could Epsilon even hold a gun right now?

[baruthumos]

"He's healing up fine. Should be back to normal in about six more weeks. It could have been a lot worse." Mostly it's the psychological effects Omega's worried about. That's also the part he's terrible at.

[soldierinblack]

"Good. What about the others?" Delta isn't the only one that's dealing with injuries.

[baruthumos]

"Sigma's got a scar, that's all that's left, and that might even fade eventually," Omega says. "Eta still has a bruise, but it doesn't bother her any."

[soldierinblack]

"Eta got bruised?" That's fucking news to her. "I thought Epsilon was the only other one that got hurt."

[baruthumos]

"Eta is five. Bruised is her natural state. She tripped on the sidewalk, landed with her helmet on her arm." Omega thought she had told Tex, but maybe Eta had gotten confused in the retelling. "She's fine. Everyone is fine for now."

[soldierinblack]

"Good." It means she doesn't need to go beat the shit out of anyone. That makes things slightly easier. "Epsilon is doing all right? Healing well?"

[baruthumos]

"Yes, yes," Omega repeats. "Six weeks and he'll be good as new, assuming he does the physical therapy. Which he will."

And then some new crisis will come up. It always does.
