Log: Falling Towards The Sky

Who: Agent Louisiana, Sigma Ai, and Oquirrh
What: Ever wonder what the city looks like from above?
Where: Louisiana's safe house, Control vehicle bay/air space over Gulch
When: 6/25 Thursday
Warnings: Mild cursing, shenanigans involving two dorks in an aircraft with no doors, Sigma cooking

Louisiana slips out of the pillow fort and stretches out her arms. She hadn't expected to do that with Sigma so soon and especially because he didn't want to go home. However it beat him sleeping at the hospital. This guaranteed good sleep for him. Her not so much. She had waited for him to pass out in order to call Omega before getting her own rest.

She heads into the kitchen and makes two cups of coffee. Bringing them back to the fort, she gently nudges Sigma awake. They had a pretty exciting plan for the day. So it'd be best to make sure he started off in a good mood.

"Hey rise and shine, Rooks. We got a date with a Falcon today."

"Yes ma'am," she calls back. The engineers are clear and a staff member waves everyone else away. Oquirrh starts the engine, grinning at the way the machine hums to life around her.

"Hi there," she whispers to it. "Let's go explore the city, shall we?"

The Falcon comes to life with about the same violence as a Warthog, if more volume. It's reassuring, actually. If he doesn't look at the ground, he won't have to know how high up they are.

At first he's worried about Louisiana standing up, yet seeing her take to their ride with such poise calms him. She has probably done this many times before. Of course she's confident, and of course he'll be safe. He relaxes against the seat and watches the sky grow closer.

"Loud," he says, though the helmet does help to cut down on the noise. "Not too bad otherwise."

They ascend more quickly now, but really, it's not bad.

The buildings become harder to see the higher the Falcon goes. Instead of craning his neck to see them, Sigma watches the sky. Wanting to study plague chemistry is one thing. Being up among the clouds will be something else entirely. He wants to feel the eddies in the air around him and watch the patterns in the clouds up close. Maybe they won't go that high, but he's hopeful.

Cruising altitude in the city still feels ridiculously high. They've just passed eight hundred feet and have another thousand to go. Oquirrh directs the Falcon out over the badlands. They can fly lower there, where she's more comfortable and the winds are more predictable. For now, though, she increases her altitude in accordance with city law.

Sigma sees rather than feels the Falcon change directions. The horizon swings around in the distance, as if the entire world rotates around the fixed point that is their aircraft. It's terrifying and beautiful.

"It really isn't," he admits. "This is incredible!"

"I never imagined I could be this close to the clouds," he admits.

Plague clouds are different. They're so much more dense, weighed down by chemicals and debris and death. (Maybe Florida's right and he doesn't need that literature minor after all.)

The clouds overhead, though? They look pure. It's a fallacy, of course, since they comprise ice that has gathered around dust particles high in the atmosphere. Still, they won't kill. Not like plague clouds. And despite the winds kicking up from the city, they're largely undisturbed. Sigma marvels at the sight.
