Log: Settling In

York's safe house really had turned out to be a good choice. The security was good and it does make him feel better knowing that it was there. Lets him sleep more easily, when he actually manages anyway. It's better than staying in the casino with the constant noise of people outside leaving him on edge.

Getting to grips with the city is a top priority though, and has him heading out . Exploring. Scoping out is probably more accurate, treating it like he would a mission.

The shopping district seems the best place to start, busiest at least, and a good place to figure out what's normal here. The helmet store has a wide variety of them in the window, and he scans a catalogue showing enhancements and mods that are available. Some of those would be pretty useful if he's honest with himself. There's weapons shops too; nothing as heavy as the weaponry he's used to having at his disposal, but it's a start. There's a nice set of knives in there too. Now that is something he's going to have to get hold of.

He spends lunches in the park. It's a little surreal to see the covered ceiling up above and know that the sky outside could kill him, but it's nice to take off his helmet for a while. The place is climate controlled, and considering the last places he'd been at home had been a desert, an icy wasteland and a humid pit of a canyon, he's not complaining.

There's a little cafe a few minutes walk from the safehouse that stays open all night, and it's a better option to be there than sitting awake and twitchy in the safe house when he can't sleep.

Abby pouts at him for that skepticism. "What, you got a problem with Medicman? He helped make sure my arm was healing after I got shot. He teaches me about wounds and infectious diseases and stuff like that. He bought be a cough plushie."

"Let's just say that at home he is not exactly known for making people feel better." And had caused untold chaos and death since his creation. And here? He's a medic. Seriously, what the hell?

Okay, now she's intrigued. Like, twisting her whole body to face Washington intrigued. "Wait... there's another Omom back from where ever you came from?"

"What? You can accept there's two Washes but two Omegas doesn't work? I mean, two Omegas would be too much for anyone but..."

"I can see you," Abby points out. "And you don't look like my sister's boyfriend. I can't see a second Omega. Besides, there are enough people in that family anyway. Like that quiet Fireboy, and Greeneyes."

"Sigma and Delta. Yeah. I know them too. Or... my versions of them." And he's getting more and more curious about meeting the ones that live here. "Yes, there was another Omega where I'm from. He was an asshole."

"Well he's not an asshole so that's different," Abby informs him simply. "He's a super good big brother that protects people. So there."

Clearly this man has the wrong sort of Omega in his life.

He can't really imagine an Omega who isn't an asshole. And Wash hadn't even had more than the most cursory acquaintance with him. But he'd heard the reports, had the memories. It was enough to know. And York had seemed fond of Sigma. And it wasn't as though Delta had been sweetness and light. "I'll take your word for it. I just know the Omega where I'm from was nothing but bad news."

"Well, he's not," Abby shrugs. "And he dates my sister's best friend, so there's that."

Omega makes that Lou lady smile, so that's good. But Big Red doesn't like Heroman, so that's bad. It's all complicated. "Their family is... weird."

He will choose to remain sceptical on that front. It's hard to think better of an AI that drove a lot of people to kill themselves and each other.

"If they're anything like they are at home, yeah, they really are."

"Well, weird," Abby decides, finishing her cupcake and getting her paper towel to clean her hands off. "I'm guessing you don't have a me you know back home. That's okay. Plenty of ways a kid like me could go."

He isn't sure why he feels like he should apologise for not knowing her, but he does. "Unless you were military, then I wouldn't. It was very insular, what I was doing." The Agents associated with each other and that was about it. They were discouraged from spending too much time with anyone else. Probably to stop them questioning what was going on.

"I suppose I wouldn't be a good soldier," Abby smiles. "Just a courier. So I'm happy."

That works.

"Courier sounds good. Marginally less getting shot at I imagine. I'm all in favour of avoiding getting shot." No matter how many times, it hurts like a bitch.

"Marginally," she laughs. "But only marginally."

"Take anything you can get in my opinion. Being shot sucks."

"Seriously!" Abby laughs, shaking her head. "I was pretty certain I would die from it. Super scary."

Not that it makes sense.

That- okay, is a little surprising. She seems too young, or maybe he's just used to everyone he meets being jaded and tired. "I did too the first time. It feels like everything's on fire."

"Oh, so that's normal?" Abby asks. "I was super afraid of it. Cause the worst I ever had before was getting beat up or cut. Those I could do myself. But the other stuff... Getting shot is insane."

"It's normal. It hurts like a bitch. You don't think that the bullets are hot, or that there's such an impact." He smiles at her. "I'm pretty sure I cried like a baby the first time.

"I did," she admits without shame. "If I didn't know Necklace and Oq would make it in time. I hadn't been that scared in a long while."

Anyone who tries to shame you for crying when getting shot is an asshole. "It's scary. Terrified me. I thought I was going to die. That part doesn't go away."

"Well, next time I'm not going to get shot," Abby grins, shaking her head. "I'm going to get this right. No one can touch courier me!"

"Good attitude to have." He can't help his smile. It's nice to meet someone so optimistic. "Just make sure you can get treatment if you need it."

"Oh yeah, my bosses gave me SUPER insurance coverage," she smiles. "Really awesome for totally evil people."

She giggles and remembers the movie that Omega watched with her. Puts on her best terrible Emperor Palatine voice (which is terrible for a higher pitched young woman), "Come to the Dark Side. We have cookies. And dental."
