LOG: Sunny Sky Lunches

The days when he doesn't have work or information to collect are so rare. Florida would have thought that taking less kill jobs would mean more time for himself, but between watching out for Tex's family, trying to be there for his girl, and everything going on with the team lately, getting out and about has been hard. So today, on his afternoon off, he decides there is only one right thing to do: enjoy the time.

He packs up a large picnic lunch, sends out messages to his teammates, Sigma, and dear little Wash from another world, and heads out to the park. With him he takes all sorts of foods, games like ring toss, a few toys for Rex, and a book for himself in case no one decides to show up. And once he arrives at the park he finds a nice sunny spot to lay out his gear, updating the messages with a gps marker in case people decide to join him.

That done he takes out Rex's frisbee and gives it a toss to watch the now full grown dog frolick off for his toy.

Today is going to be a good day, with or without company.

Sigma knows better than to ask, just nods understandingly. Florida's jobs are beyond his skill level.

Rex has yielded the ball sticky with slobber. Sigma is more than happy to throw it and get rid of it.

"He slobbers a lot less than most dogs," Florida notes. Then he reaches for a tub of fruit salad and offers it to Sigma. "Please, eat up. I want there to be peace between us, and by eating my food, you are my guest, and there will be peace."

It's still more slobber than Sigma wants to deal with. He wipes his hands on a napkin and takes the fruit salad.

...peace. Right. He had fought a losing battle for his brother, and despite the bitterness of surrender, he's not sure he regrets it. "Peace. I like the sound of that."

"Good," Florida smiles. "That works for me. I am done harassing your brother, and your family."

Sigma really doesn't want to talk about Delta. They've been out of touch, and he doesn't think he has the right. Nor does Florida, for that matter.

"Sometimes Omega could use a bit of harassing," he teases. "Though he's doing better."

[the_informant]

"Well, I'll harass him, then," Florida smiles.

[ambitious_muse]

"Gently. I think he misses having a big brother who can pick on him."

Maybe Omega needs a dog. Has he met Rex? The pup comes running and drops the ball in Sigma's lap.

[the_informant]

"I thought Maine was his big brother," Florida says in shock. His relationship to Omega is... different.

[ambitious_muse]

"He hasn't been to the house yet," he says vaguely. "Around the base? Absolutely. And I'm not sure how much of a tease Maine is."

[the_informant]

"Bah, Maine pulls great pranks when he's drunk," Florida chuckles. "But he should totally go over!"

[ambitious_muse]

"Really? I've never seen him drunk," Sigma admits. "Lou tells some great stories about it, though."

[the_informant]

"They aren't allowed near microwaves," Florida laughs as he picks up a stuffed animal and tosses it aside to watch Rex race off. "It's bad. They're a little hurricane and it's fun to watch."

[ambitious_muse]

"Microwaves?" he asks, intrigued. "What did they do, microwave tinfoil?"

That one's really cool but very dangerous. It seems like something they'd try.

[the_informant]

"Marshmellows," Florida smiles, shaking his head.

[ambitious_muse]

"Marshmallows?" Laughing, Sigma shakes his head with him. He's seen videos of it but never dared try it himself. His brothers would kill him. "Why?!"

[the_informant]

"They wanted to make smores," Florida giggles. "It was a terrible mess."

[ambitious_muse]

"In the microwave?"

Sure, a lot of things probably make sense when you're drunk, but that's just ridiculous.

[the_informant]

"In the microwave!" Florida agrees with a chuckle. "Oh man was it a mess. I was so upset with them."

[ambitious_muse]

"Did you have to clean it up?" he asks. Something tells him they would've made an even worse mess in their drunken state.

[the_informant]

"No," Florida smiles. "I made someone else do it. I wasn't responsible for them."

[ambitious_muse]

Sigma snorts with laughter. "I'm sure you did," he says. "Those two can be a handful."

[the_informant]

"They can, which was a real delight, back in the day," Florida says, his smile wistful and a bit distant.

[ambitious_muse]

"She's still a lot of fun," he says. "Though I don't know Maine nearly as well, and not as well as I know the cats." It's been fun watching the kittens grow.

[the_informant]

"Good man to know," Florida notes. "A true hero in my book. I'm going to ask him with some help with work soon. Maybe you'll have to watch said cats."

[ambitious_muse]

"Oh?" Maybe he shouldn't ask about work. "I'd be all right with that. We finally got a vacuum for the apartment, so that's less of a mess when they stay over."

He doesn't usually bring York to Maine's or Louisiana's safehouses. It feels like the decent thing to do.
