LOG: Sunny Sky Lunches

The days when he doesn't have work or information to collect are so rare. Florida would have thought that taking less kill jobs would mean more time for himself, but between watching out for Tex's family, trying to be there for his girl, and everything going on with the team lately, getting out and about has been hard. So today, on his afternoon off, he decides there is only one right thing to do: enjoy the time.

He packs up a large picnic lunch, sends out messages to his teammates, Sigma, and dear little Wash from another world, and heads out to the park. With him he takes all sorts of foods, games like ring toss, a few toys for Rex, and a book for himself in case no one decides to show up. And once he arrives at the park he finds a nice sunny spot to lay out his gear, updating the messages with a gps marker in case people decide to join him.

That done he takes out Rex's frisbee and gives it a toss to watch the now full grown dog frolick off for his toy.

Today is going to be a good day, with or without company.

"Oh my," FLorida says in shock. "You hadn't had a vacuum? Omega must have been scandalized!"

[ambitious_muse]

"I've been borrowing one from the neighbors once every few weeks," he says. "Omega refuses to visit the apartment, so he wouldn't know."

He's more bitter than he lets on.

[the_informant]

"I could talk to him," Florida offers quietly. He's not certain it would go well, but clearly Sigma wants this. And Florida considers himself the quiet guardian of the happiness of this family now. Perhaps one day his own family.

[ambitious_muse]

Sigma shrugs. "I'm not sure it's worth it," he says. "He hated that I moved out on my own, and I made it worse when I asked York to spend weekends with me. Omega will never approve of me having my own space."

It's better not to force it when he knows Omega will resent it anyway.

"Then I promise to not say anything," Florida offers with a sad smile. "I'm sorry he's being such a pain."

[ambitious_muse]

"I wish there was something," he says. "But you know Omega."

[the_informant]

"Indeed I do. He's a boy that means well, but circumstances often change who we mean to be into who we become," Florida shrug.

[ambitious_muse]

"And he's probably had it worst out of all of us." Poor Omega, holding them together for so long, only to have his little brother grow up and want to be independent.

Sigma's only a little sarcastic.

[the_informant]

"I would argue that all of you had it insanely bad, in unique ways. And... so you know, the door has temporarily been removed from the closet at your old place. I'll put it back on when we can chain a bitch in there."

His tone is joyful. He wants the man to suffer.

[ambitious_muse]

Memories flash to mind unbidden. Sigma grips his fork with white-knuckled fingers.

A sigh. A nod. Because he understands the needs for revenge, even though it hurts.

"Sorry," Florida sighs. "I love your family. And I want to help protect you all."

[ambitious_muse]

"Could've used it a long time ago."

He hates to sound ungrateful, so he shakes his head. "It's over. He left us, and he'll never find us again. Thanks to you."

[the_informant]

"I'm only somewhat good at this," Florida shrugs. "But I promise to do my best."

[ambitious_muse]

"You're better at it than anyone I've ever met," he says. "And certainly better than I could hope to be."

[the_informant]

"I want to help you," Florida shrugs. "One day I might need an information management assistant."

[ambitious_muse]

Sigma blushes. "That's--" It's incredibly flattering. Possibly not what he wants, but still. "Thank you. Someday, maybe. But... there's school to worry about."

[the_informant]

"I'd forbid it before you were done with school," Florida informs him simply. "It just wouldn't do."

[ambitious_muse]

Well, he may just take several years to figure out how to say no.

"I'm not dropping out," he says. "Or stopping. No matter what my brothers seem to think."

[the_informant]

Not that he'd need to say it.

"Good. People regret leaving school sometimes," Florida smiles. "I wish I ever went."

[ambitious_muse]

"I mean, you could still go back," Sigma points out. "If you wanted. You probably know more in your subject areas than some professors, though, and you'd hate the group projects."

Though the thought of siccing Florida on some of his former lab partners makes him grin.

[the_informant]

"I'm too old, to set in my ways, and too bad at taking instruction," Florida counters. "No, I could never go to school. I don't have hte education for it."

[ambitious_muse]

"How ironic is it that we have to teach people how to learn?" He sighs and takes a bite of the fruit salad.

[the_informant]

"Teach a man to fish..." Florida muses.

[ambitious_muse]

"Yes, but teaching someone to fish has immediate and obvious value," he says. "It doesn't take four or more years, or cost tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars."

[the_informant]

"True, I suppose," Florida shrugs. "I wasn't taught either way, so you have to understand I'm not hte best gauge of any of this."
