Per Sigma's suggestion, Delta's prompting, and Omega's invitation, tonight is the first night Maine is welcomed back into the lives of the Ais. Dinner is set for an hour after Maine is due to arrive, giving him plenty of time to socialize, and there are board, card, and video games out in the family room for before dinner if needed and after dinner indeed. Everything is ready for the friend to be welcomed back by a joyful family.

"You hid it? That's no fun," he says. "Though I don't think we'd get to be on the same team. We'd have to mix it up."

"I don't want Risk tonight," Delta smiles. "Play Don't Wake Daddy or something."

[ambitious_muse]

"With Maine?" Maybe. "And York? I get York for my team, by the way, regardless of what we play."

[protective_logic]

"Why not? The kids like it," Delta shrugs. "Wait... you're abandoning the team? Who will I work with? Omega?"

"Or Theta," he says. "I would say the Twins, but they'll probably try to grab Maine."

[protective_logic]

"Theta might pick Maine too," delta points out. "So I get gamma?"

[ambitious_muse]

"Probably," he says. "Sorry, D."

Maybe he and York shouldn't team up, to show Omega that they can function separately. But where's the fun in that?

[protective_logic]

"Please don't worry about it. Given it is a four player game we might have to have teams of three players each." Which would put him somewhere.

[ambitious_muse]

"If you're sure," he says.

Maybe they won't end up playing games. He hopes they will, of course, but with Omega and York, who knows?

"I am," Delta says. "I would really like a game tonight,a nd one the littles can have fun with. Not a trivia game."

Between him, Gamma and Sigma, no one else had fun. Except for Omega with medicine questions.

"Maybe after they go to bed? I bet York and Maine could give us a run for our money."

[protective_logic]

"Perhaps," Delta laughs. "Maybe after they go to bed."

Hopefully everyone will be allowed--or decide--to stay that late. "It would certainly be a fun challenge."

"It would be exciting. And we have the the guest room and a number of couches to play with."

[ambitious_muse]

"See? Plenty of space." He stops slicing vegetables long enough to stretch. "It's a really good space for our family."

[protective_logic]

"It's more than a good space," Delta smiles. "I love it. So much. I think I'm happy here. Ready to make a real life."

"Yeah?" Because working a real job isn't enough of a real life?

...no. Delta deserves to be proud of this.

"How's your office?"

[protective_logic]

"Smithson was replacing the storage shelves at work, so now I have a set of shelves for components. And I want to get a few more lamps and desks."

It's a very busy area he needs to work on. "This... really feels like a place to life my life out. Raise this family. Find something beyond it. That's a great feeling. Not trapped by the past. The memories."

"It sounds like a lucky find," he says. "Kind of like this place. It's so great to be away from all of that."

It's part of why he moved out. He wanted space and security all his own. That doesn't mean he isn't grateful, though, that Delta has found that for himself.

"Your anniversary is coming up," delta notes. "I am proud of you. Relationships are hard and you have stuck to it through all. I almost want to give you a gift. Is that something people do?"

[ambitious_muse]

"It hasn't been easy," he admits. "But. I love him. It's going to work.

"I don't think you're supposed to give people that for their anniversary. That's for the couple themselves."

[protective_logic]

"Oh," Delta grins. "Well, what if I just give you a gift for the apartment? I saw a nice set of takeout menus you would love."

He's teasing, of course. Sigma's gotten far better.

"I do love takeout," he teases right back, "but didn't you give me that set when I moved out? Or was that Omega?"
