Louisiana laid back in the lounge chair, listening to the man made waterfall. Her helmet nearby out of habit rather than necessity. It was nice to be able to comfortably enjoy the sun rays coming in and be surrounded by flora. She however kept half of her attention to the door inside. Hopefully Florida would chose that conviential route rather than appearing out of the trees. He had a knack for randomly appearing despite having given a warning.

"Home is a difficult word. I probably should've said bearable or livable," she replies. Emerald Cove was still considered her home. Adaptive has grown on her though.

"I guess reminders of him would be my best answer to that."

[the_informant]

"I've never..." Florida sighs. "I'm not used to people, Lou. I help when it benefits me. When I feel that my life would be better for supporting someone. I'm not what you'd call... reliable."

Or affectionate.

"I would beg to differ on that. If what you say is true, then supporting me throughout the time we've known each other has benefited you. You've always worried over me. I know you kept tabs on me."

She laughs softly. "I remember how you freaked out about my first target. The guy who smashed my visor apart. Mon dieu, the lecture I got."

[the_informant]

"You should have had a better helmet," he agrees, sighing at the memory. "I don't trust Control, Lou. I don't like monsters that can hide so well. I can't even seem to figure out where they're based. Mysteries that I can't unravel are..."

Troubling. Frustrating. Dangerous. Deadly.

"Concerning. I wish you'd come back to stay."

"Well I was a recruit. Kind of limited options."

She looks away. Her employer was definitely a mystery. She hadn't even met them in person yet. However they were a good client compared to others she had in the past.

"I thought we were talking about us and not them. Besides I don't trust clients. I know better. Besides stay where? At the base? Go back to a place I left for a reason?"

"I just worry when you're off on your own."

There's an honesty to the admission, a rawness to it that has Florida looking away nervously. Dammit the girl is important to him and when she disappears off to wherever Control takes her, he respects her privacy. He hasn't gone looking for her yet. Even if there was a part of him that is tempted to take up root and just follow her.

Louisiana takes note of his posture, surprised. Florida was not supposed to be nervous. At least she never would have thought him to be. She sighs softly.

"I'll admit it's been nice the past couple of days. Minus the injury and bounty of course. ...I've been wanting to come back here for a while."

A reassuring smile is offered. "I missed you, crétin."

"What changes now?" Florida asks quietly, looking up at her. "With you going. Will you come back? What am I supposed to do now that I know this?"

"What you do is to your discretion. I can't choose for you," Louisiana answers. "Do you want me to come back?"

[the_informant]

"Of course," Florida says quickly. "You're... the closest thing I've ever had to a family, as weird as that sounds."

Hell, he cared about her survival more than he did of that of some of his teammates.

She was caught off guard at the speed of his answer. "Well... I don't think it sounds weird. I'll find a way then. I'll get a reassignment."

[the_informant]

"Don't ruin your career on my impulses," Florida sighs, pushing to his feet. "For Maine, on the other hand..."

Clearly he could see potential there.

"There's plenty of Control's lackeys to work in Armonia. I wouldn't be missing much. Maine would appreciate this as well as others probably."

She watches him. Louisiana was already preparing herself for solitude. It was an old habit. Always at the smallest notion getting ready for people leaving.

"However I don't think it'd hurt to take account of your needs, Florida."

[the_informant]

"I don't need you here," Florida dismisses quickly. He knows the difference between wanting and needing.

"I just want you around."

She looks away. "I understand. Désolé pour mon erreur."

[the_informant]

"It's not a mistake," Florida insists as he stands. "It's a difference. If I needed you here it would mean I have no control over it. You'd be as necessary but uncomplicated as water or air. But you're complicated, Lou. I don't need you to live. But... But I want you around. Enough to ignore a lot of other things. Wants are more important than needs, in some ways."

"I suppose you're right." It's her turn to stand and she crosses her arms over her chest. She continues to avoid eye contact however. "I'll keep the difference in mind. It's nice to be wanted though."

[the_informant]

"I've... never had anything like a family before, Lou. I know this isn't the same, but... the very suggestion that you'd choose someone like me really makes me have to think."

It awkward. She's going to kill him someday, but he can't find it in himself to begrudge her.

"You're a much better choice than the people I left behind on Cove," she admits with a soft laugh. "But it's fine. Call it a work in progress."

[the_informant]

"A work in progress," Florida says thoughtfully. "Yes, I believe I can work with that."

He smiles as warmly at her as he can. "If I'd have had a daughter, I think I would have wanted her to be like you."

She manages to return the smile. "Good to know. And thanks. I...I appreciate that."

[the_informant]

"Can I hug you?" Florida asks quietly, shyly.

[spectre_de_la_mort]

Louisiana nodded. "Sure I guess."

[the_informant]

Florida hesitates for a moment before moving forward to hug her. It's just for a moment, and it's a light one, but when he pulls back he's smiling a bit.

"You're a good kid, Alexis. And I promise that if you do something as stupid as getting yourself killed, I'm going to find you, put you back together, and then ground you for all eternity."

"No promises," she replies. Louisiana grinned, giving a shrug. "But I'll try. I'm an idiot but not a reckless one."
