Maine's drives to the Ai residence are getting shorter, though whether he's growing used to the commute or his speed is creeping, he doesn't notice. He's too eager to get there.

York is hurt, their little world is in danger, and all he has is his jeep and a box of brownie mix.

"It feels like forever since I heard it last," Delta answers. "Do... you mind if we move to a more comfortable stretch of counter?"

"Not at all."

Delta's so light, it's easy to lift him in his arms and lead him to a wider section of counter. Maine briefly considers the couch again but decides against it. This is new and exciting. No reason to rush away from it.

Delta laughs as Maine picks him up. Who even knew that could be wonderful?

"You're so strong."

[maine_makes_growly_noises]

Maine can't help but laugh himself, can't resist kissing those laughing lips. "Strong for you," he promises when he's done.

"Strong before me," Delta laughs. "Like you using it for me."

[maine_makes_growly_noises]

"Much better reason," Maine concedes. He prefers having someone to protect, someone to care for, than--well, than doing what he did as a show of strength, just because he could. He never wants to go back to those days.

"I wish I never had to leave this moment," Delta whispers. The whole world out there is going crazy and he just wants his boyfriend at his side. He wants to feel that they are both alive.

[maine_makes_growly_noises]

"So stay?" Maine asks. "Make it last ask long as we can?"

[protective_logic]

"It could never last long enough," Delta admits, reaching up to rub Maine's head again.

[maine_makes_growly_noises]

"No," he says, "but I'd like to try anyway."

He doesn't want to go. For now, he has no reason to. He'll try his best to keep it that way, for Delta's sake and for his own.

"Don't leave," Delta whispers. God he's just perfect. So Delta pulls him closer, grabs him by his belt loops and pulls him closer. As close as he does.

[maine_makes_growly_noises]

Laughter rumbles low in Maine's chest. He presses forward, obliging. "I won't," he says, tightening his arms around Delta's waist and pulling him in for a kiss.

"Oh," Delta gasps against his lips. Yeah... this is just an eternity of amazing.

He just wants to sit here forever.

Maine grins, then kisses him again, this time long and gentle against those soft lips.

That was just amazing. Gentle and sweet and soft. He's never felt more amazing in his life.

Delta has given him no reason to stop, so Maine continues, hands steady at his back.

At last Delta pulls back and smiles at his boyfriend. "We need to find more time together. We really do."

"Figured out your evening off yet?" he asks.

[protective_logic]

"Have to ask Omega. Want to do that soon. I can't do anything strenuous, but I want the time."

Time, something that always seems to be short.

[maine_makes_growly_noises]

"Still owe you that museum date," he says. "And I know lots of good restaurants."

[protective_logic]

"Sounds amazing. Just not now," Delta sighs. With York hurt he's going to need to be here more.

[maine_makes_growly_noises]

"Then I can come to you," Maine says. "Or what about next week? I could introduce you to Louisiana. Cook dinner for all of us."

"I can finally meet her?" Delta asks in shock. "Yeah. I want to meet this woman."

[maine_makes_growly_noises]

"Name a day," he says, "and I'll arrange it. Any particular food?"

[protective_logic]

"Whatever day works for her," Delta smiles. "What does she like to eat?"
