Log: There's No Place Like Home

There's no place like home, York thinks as he grins up at the building he's been away from for almost exactly two months. It hasn't changed at all, not that he'd expected it to, but the familiarity makes him smile so wide it almost hurts his face.

Sure, he's wheelchair bound and will be until he can get the strength back into his legs, but he's finally home and will soon be back among his friends. Plus he knows the medics here, so the care will be with people he's familiar with and who are familiar with him and that will make things a hell of a lot easier.

He's wheeled up to the door where he insists on letting himself in, tapping in the codes he's known for years and thanking God for the hundredth time that the bullet to his head didn't damage his motor functions. Learning to deal with only having one eye had been hard, recovering his speech is going to be just as tricky. Having to relearn how to move, how to use his hands would have been beyond torture.

The door swings open and he's pushed inside, grinning even at the plain hallway while he takes his helmet - his own helmet, finally returned to him that morning - off and holds it in his lap. He's been practicing with Obi for this.

'I'mm o- h-ho~ome!'

He's giving in. Maine stares from the laser point to Wash and back. Definitely not at York or Sigma. Never mind how distracting Sigma is, with his failed attempts to stop laughing.

York doesn't dare keep trying to eat, knowing anything he tries to swallow is going to choke him. Wash is slowly moving closer and he moves the laser in bursts, suddenly sending it close to the grey and gold merc before darting it away again. So close...

Okay, so York is making it really obvious now. Sigma can't stop watching and he can't stop laughing. He almost wants York to just let him catch it, though it probably doesn't work that way.

How can any of them eat when Wash is acting like this?

Wash knows he's got to strike at the source.

Closer...closer...

And then he snaps toward York, hands outstretched. "Laser pointer time is OVER," he shouts, giggling.

It's Maine's turn to laugh, this time at York's expense. Well-played, Wash. Maine puts down his plate in case he has to grapple Sigma away so York can get his comeuppance.

York yelps at the sudden attack, arms coming up to shield himself. Laughing, he tries to bat Wash away, hoping the laser pointer is hidden well enough that Wash won't find it in the scuffle.

Sigma nearly drops his pancakes in surprise. Fumbling to put them on the counter, he heads to help York, but Maine stops him with a hand on his shoulder.

Wash has an evil grin on his face now, but hey, he learned from the best.

"I'm gonna find it!" Not in the lap, it's not in his hands...where could it be? Wash is grabbing every which way, hoping that he'll get lucky.

[maine_makes_growly_noises]

"Leave them to it," Maine advises. These two have been friends for long enough without boyfriends interfering. At least they both sound like they're having fun.

York shakes his head, still laughing as he swaps between fending Wash off and pretending to hide different places as if it was there, his hips, pocket, crotch just because.

Shaking his head, Sigma retrieves his pancakes. Fine. He'll stay out of it while Wash manhandles his boyfriend.

The crotch is strictly Sigma's territory. Wash is not gonna go there. He's getting desperate, though. All this flailing and no laser pointer. He drops back and squints, making an attempt to sound menacing. "I'll find it one of these days, agent New York. Mark my words."

[maine_makes_growly_noises]

So scary. Washington forgets that he sounds most intimidating when he doesn't think about it. Maine goes back to eating his pancakes.

York just bursts out laughing all over again at the cheesy threat. Shaking his head, he grins evilly. Never will Wash find the laser, and so he will keep it for another day.

"Maybe you should go get your cat ears, Wash. The evil laser pointer might be back by then."

[searchandrecovery]

"No way. What if the laser gets on the ears? That'd be terrible." Oquirrh made those. He is not going to disgrace the cat ears with a foul laser.

[maine_makes_growly_noises]

"Ears?" Maine asks. That's right, the gift from Wash's girlfriend. Finally, someone who could teach Wash to appreciate hand-made gifts.

"Cat enough without them."

Oh, he definitely needs to see those ears at some point. Thought Maine is right, they'd only add physical appearance to Wash's inner cat.

"But York hasn't seen them yet," he says. "C'mon. For him."

"Only if he promises to put away the laser pointer," Wash concedes. There. Now he might actually do it.

[maine_makes_growly_noises]

Maine wants to see this. He gives York a pointed look and brandishes his silverware at him.

Well now, why would he give up the hiding place? It's a good one and Wash doesn't find it, so he can use it again on the future. Though Maine brandishing a fork is a bit more threatening than Wash's earlier attempt.

"That's fair," Sigma says. "Here, I'll put it in your room. Or give it to Maine so he can hold it."

Wash trusts Maine, right?

Wash trusts Maine. He trusts Sigma just enough to agree with the plan. "Fine. Be right back."

And he's off to go cat-ify himself.

When Wash is gone, Maine extends a hand to York. "Give it," he says.
