Log: All The Small Things

Who: Wash (OU) and you!
What: Wash has completed his first job as a mercenary and is out to celebrate it
Where: Out and about in town, picking up some better equipment, and then to the Eagle and Asp for a drink
When: Afternoon to night 29/11
Warnings: None so far



It hadn't been the most glamorous of jobs, but any notion of glamour had been beaten out of him practically the day he'd enlisted. The important thing was that his first job as a registered mercenary had gone well and that was the first step to being able to take care of himself without having to rely on other people. Sure, it would take a few more jobs before he felt comfortable, but it was a start.

That was cause enough for celebration, right?

His first step is to head out to a supplier to stock up on equipment. Nothing fancy for now, but enough to get him started. A good gun or two, and a solid combat knife.

There's other things that he needs, an almost overwhelming amount, he realises now that he has the money to start thinking about it. Clothes that aren't fatigues or armour, and there's so many different kinds that it takes him far longer than it should to pick out what he needs.

And once that's done, he heads to the Eagle and Asp for a drink. It feels appropriate somehow.

"I know how to behave at a bar, Church," Wash says, rolling his eyes at the other man.

[alphawho]

"Are you sure? What kind of drunk are you? Maybe you're the kind that starts trying to go all Coyote Ugly dancing on the bar after a few." After a beat: "I bet we could make some sweet cash that way."

Wash gives him a look, a kind of squinting, 'what the fuck' look. "I am not dancing on bars for you, Church. I don't think anyone wants to see me try."

[alphawho]

"Dude, the fuck, I'm not asking you to. Shit would get you tossed out in a heartbeat. I'm just saying if you end up being that kind of drunk, then, y'know. Drink your drink I'll make you another jesus christ."

[notyourrookie]

"If I do get that drunk," Wash begins, taking a thoughtful sip of his drink, "then I want a good cut of the takings."

[alphawho]

"You probably can't even dance sober, let alone drunk. I mean, c'mon, you can't have had time to dance in the military."

[notyourrookie]

"We went to clubs and bars on shore leave. Which okay, was a while back." Sure, it isn't entirely an answer but...

[alphawho]

"So no on the dancing? ...Yes on the dancing? Had any wild shore leaves?"

[notyourrookie]

"I don't remember most of them. Does that answer your question?"

[alphawho]

"Wow, so it's true, you military boys and girls party hella hard. Shame we can't get some of that business here; we'd be booming for days."

[notyourrookie]

"When we get the chance, which isn't often." It didn't make up for anything, but you needed to cut loose when you got the chance. "Not a big draw for the military, this area of space then?"

[alphawho]

"Not this planet, not this city anyway. We aren't exactly at war with anyone right now. So. Just how crazy does badass soldier Washington get when he's not blackout drunk?"

[notyourrookie]

"That's a good thing. The war is technically over at home, but you wouldn't know it, most of the time." Truly ending something that's been going on that long isn't an easy prospect.

He thinks for a moment, sipping at his drink. "We got pretty crazy a couple of times. It was a long time ago."

"So you're too jaded and shit to get all wild and crazy now?"

[notyourrookie]

"I don't know. I just haven't had chance to find out."

[alphawho]

"...Well I guess you'll have plenty of opportunity here. Y'know, barring any crazy intergalactic war shit."

[notyourrookie]

"I'm not planning on it. Not much fun alone anyway."

[alphawho]

"Just means you need to make you some friends so you can get drunk around them and party," he says, pointing at him across the bar.

[notyourrookie]

Wash shakes his head. "I told you. I'm better off on my own."

[alphawho]

"Friends aren't gonna kill--ohhhhh, you came from Fucked Up World. Um. Friends here generally won't kill you?"

[notyourrookie]

"There's enough mercs here that I have trouble believing that."

[alphawho]

"Pff, who says you have to make friends with the other mercs? Mercs here got friends and boyfriends and shit who aren't other mercs." And it's causing some problems but hey!

[notyourrookie]

Wash shakes his head. "How would I know who was a merc or not?" he asked. Wasn't the whole point of being a mercenary that you didn't go and announce it. "Besides, my choices are 'mercenaries who I can't trust' or 'civilians who won't get it'."

[alphawho]

"So, what, you're literally just gonna be alone except for York who set you up and coming here to see my asshole face?" Figuratively speaking, given his habit of keeping the helmet on at work.

[notyourrookie]

"That's the plan," Wash replies with a curt nod. He's too far in with York, and he's told the other man to tell his friends, just to avoid any problems, but other than that? "I can hit up other bars too if that's a problem."
