Church has to stare for a minute because the guy's sitting a little odd. Moves funny. "You need something to dull the whatever?" he offers. "Or like, a heating pad maybe?"

He opens his mouth to make a quick retort, except it's at that moment that he tries to turn to face Church and yeah, that is a bad bad movement to make right now. He winces, arm curling protectively against his ribs. "Um, yeah. That might be... good."

"...You sure you wouldn't rather get checked out by a medic? Or take some painkillers and not booze?"

[notyourrookie]

"It's just bruising," Wash says tiredly. "I- I fell. But that's all. Bruising. Had worse."

[alphawho]

"You fell on your entire chest? On a job?"

[notyourrookie]

"There was a wall," Wash says awkwardly. "And a car."

[alphawho]

"Did you crash a fucking car?!" That might be said louder than intended.

[notyourrookie]

Wash gives him an offended look. "No! I did not crash a goddam car. ...I fell off the wall and onto the car. Which might possibly have been moving at the time."

"...That sounds cartoony I hope you realize. Like an actual cartoon character with cartoon physics."

Wash groans. He'd bang his head against the bar except that would mean bending and he is pretty sure it will hurt. "Look, sometimes falling from things onto other things is just part of the job. Unlike cartoons it fucking hurts."

"Once again: maybe get some ice and someone to make sure you didn't fracture anything?"

[notyourrookie]

"I didn't." Probably. He's breathing fine. "I know what cracked ribs feel like and this isn't it. I'll just ache for a few days. It's not like I fell off a skyscraper or got a car thrown at me. Again."

"You fell off a skyscraper??"

[notyourrookie]

He shrugs one shoulder. "Well, it was less fell and more... jumped. Because the ship fired from orbit and blew it up so it was that or die."

"...Your fucking space marine life, dude." He shakes his head. "For real."

[notyourrookie]

"It was a hell of a mission," Wash says, and there's a hint of a grin on his lips.

"You gonna be actually okay or are you just saying it to seem all tough and badass?"

[notyourrookie]

"Are you gonna believe me if I say I'm fine, or do you need to do a physical exam for yourself?"

"I only give booze as prescription meds, not actual meds. I'd be a pretty shitty doctor."

[notyourrookie]

"Good thing I'm not looking for meds then," Wash replies.

[alphawho]

"You're looking for drinkable painkiller, and I got it all right here."

[notyourrookie]

"What do you recommend? For medicinal purposes?"

[alphawho]

"You know, you are allowed to come in with your own preferences. If I were you I'd just start hammering back shots until colors start blurring together and you can taste purple."

"On the ship it was either the cheapest, strongest shit we could get, or crappy beer. I like trying new things. But tasting purple sounds like an excellent plan."

"So, I mean, I guess I could make you something raspberry-ish? Or something?"
