Per Sigma's suggestion, Delta's prompting, and Omega's invitation, tonight is the first night Maine is welcomed back into the lives of the Ais. Dinner is set for an hour after Maine is due to arrive, giving him plenty of time to socialize, and there are board, card, and video games out in the family room for before dinner if needed and after dinner indeed. Everything is ready for the friend to be welcomed back by a joyful family.

So Delta has reinforcements on his crusade for more greens. Sigma grins. "Small portions and bribery sound like a promising way to go," he says. "So, what are we having tonight? Besides salad?"

"My Cincinnati Chili, some bread for dipping and pasta of course, a small fruit salad because Maine is bringing dessert, and brown rice and beans for anyone who can't accept dinner the way it is," Delta smiles. It's always nice to make an alternative that has full protein content. Sometimes Omega just won't do meat for a night, and this would be for him if that's his play.

"Oh, and there's lemonade and water chilling in the fridge as they seemed most appropriate. I hope there's something in all of that which York will eat."

If not, well, York's an adult who can find his way around the ktichen.

That "someone" is probably Omega. Sigma shakes his head.

"That sounds delicious, D. I'm sure York will find something he likes." His boyfriend isn't that picky. "Any idea what the dessert plan is?"

"Maine," Delta answers. And then he realizes how that could be taken and shakes his head. "He's bringing the cornbread with syrup again. The twins are insanely excited."

Sigma pointedly does not take advantage of the ambiguity. His brother probably doesn't want to be teased.

"Of course they are. They love making messes." And who's he kidding? That sounds delicious.

"I imagine you and York will help them with that. So you know, Theta has been promised a later bedtime if he doesn't make a massive mess of himself. You shouldn't taunt him with messy games."

[ambitious_muse]

"Not with dessert," he says. "If they get too messy, they'll have to take baths, and none of us wants to deal with that."

[protective_logic]

"Exactly," Delta chuckles. "But the thing is, they got super sticky last time. So I'm probably on bath duty tonight. It will get me out of people's hair too."

"Thanks for volunteering," he says. He probably shouldn't joke that Maine doesn't have hair to get stuck in. "Is Omega excited to have Maine over?"

[protective_logic]

Delta jesters over the counter to the side, where one can just make out the family room where Omega and Gamma are playing games together. "He forgot it was today, he forgot Maine is bringing dessert, and he thinks Theta should greet Maine at the door. So... Maybe?"

How can you tell when Omega is excited?

Sigma raises an eyebrow. "Maybe it's good that the twins have abducted my guest and are keeping him in the living room." Better let Omega enjoy Maine's visit first, then introduce the added element.

"Omega is a bit not focused today," Delta shrugs. He finally puts in a touch more cinnamon and then moves to check the preheated oven. "Bread or no bread? I can't decide. Mostly because I don't know if I would want some. I like it with grated cheese on it and then dip it in a tiny bit of the sauce and maybe put some of the pasta right on it."

It works in his opinion.

"If it's not too much work, that would be great," Sigma says. "Though it gives the twins something besides their vegetables to fill up on."

How is dinner such a tactical operation now?

[protective_logic]

It's not a tactical operation. Delta genuinely doesn't know whether to make bread or not.

"Oh, can you start the coffee pot? I imagine York might want some with dinner."

He's good with that too. "So... Come to make sure that I'm level headed for seeing Maine? I assure you I am."

"Coffee. Of course. There are few things he loves more."

He sets down the knife and moves to get the pot started. "I'm assured. Trust me. Not that I needed it. I came back here to help, not to spy."

[protective_logic]

"Not spy. Scout for a friend you care about," Delta chuckles. "You've clearly been avoiding making some pretty good jokes. I could see it on the tip of your tongue."

[ambitious_muse]

Sigma sticks his tongue out so Delta can see exactly what's on the tip of it. "I do know how to behave myself, you know."

[protective_logic]

"Funny," Delta rolls his eyes. "How comes the salad?"

[ambitious_muse]

"Well, the coffee is heating up." Sigma closes the machine. "I got everything washed off. The chopping is the easy part."

"True enough," Delta laughs, shaking his head. "I also want you to know that I hid Risk. We don't need another pass of that."

[ambitious_muse]

"You hid it? That's no fun," he says. "Though I don't think we'd get to be on the same team. We'd have to mix it up."

[protective_logic]

"I don't want Risk tonight," Delta smiles. "Play Don't Wake Daddy or something."

[ambitious_muse]

"With Maine?" Maybe. "And York? I get York for my team, by the way, regardless of what we play."

[protective_logic]

"Why not? The kids like it," Delta shrugs. "Wait... you're abandoning the team? Who will I work with? Omega?"

"Or Theta," he says. "I would say the Twins, but they'll probably try to grab Maine."
