Maine's drives to the Ai residence are getting shorter, though whether he's growing used to the commute or his speed is creeping, he doesn't notice. He's too eager to get there.

York is hurt, their little world is in danger, and all he has is his jeep and a box of brownie mix.

God his hands are amazing. They make him feel just so good. Is this what it's like to be really into someone? Is this what Sigma does with York? Will do when York is better? He smiles into the kiss, but his arms stay around Maine's neck for balance.

Those arms around his neck, that weight pressing against him, is enough. He lets his hands creep up Delta's spine, caressing the lines of his ribs.

Delta's breath shudders as he tries to deal with the pleasure of the touch. And part of him wonders how amazing it would be for skin on skin touch. But no, god, he's the responsible brother.

That doesn't keep his hand from sneaking up a bit to rub the back of Maine's head. So soft.

Delta may not remember rubbing his head after his surgery, but Maine does. A rumble of pleasure wells up in his chest--not as hostile as a growl, something more excited. He lets it escape this time. Delta's lucid now. He'll understand.

Wow. What a noise. That's... That's amazing. Enough that Delta pulls back to look at Maine.

"I'm guessing you don't mind that I'm doing that, right?"

[maine_makes_growly_noises]

"Don't mind at all," he says, grinning.

"That noise was amazing," Delta admits, his cheeks just a little pink. The noise had gone right through him in what he thinks might have been a more embarrassing way were it not for the fact that where he was sitting was hardly comfortable.

He laughs and kisses Delta softly. "See if you can find it again?" he teases.

It was amazing. He hasn't made a sound like that in a very long time, and he's grateful that Delta can bring it out of him.

Delta laughs at the suggestion and reaching up to actively rub the back of Maine's head, as if he was trying to massage away some pain.

"I have to wonder... Do you buzz your hair yourself, or do you do it yourself?"

He's got so much curiosity. The his other hand comes down to stroke Maine's jaw, he loves how rough it is. "I can't really grow facial hair all that well. I have to shave because it's so spotty, but it looks like you could grow out a beard if you wanted to."

"Buzz it myself," he says. "More convenient that way." He rolls his head back into those hands, grinning.

"Never tried a beard. Didn't think it would work with the helmet." He considers. "Do you like the scruff?"

"I do," Delta grins, loving the way Maine's head moves. He wants to giggle in joy and he swallows it back. His partner never needs to know he giggles.

"I really do. Because it feels tingly against my skin. And even after you stop kissing me I can feel you not only on my lips, but on my skin because of the scruff."

When he buries his face in his scarf he likes to imagine that the little catches on his skin is Maine's scruff.

"What if I don't stop kissing you?" He teases, turning his head just enough to press a kiss into Delta's palm.

"I wish you never would," Delta whispers honestly as he watches Maine. "I love you. I don't know when or how it happened but... Just seeing you makes me smile."

[maine_makes_growly_noises]

"I love you, too," he whispers back. "And I feel so lucky to be loved by you." He wants to kiss beside those beautiful eyes. If only Delta's glasses weren't in the way.

"It feels like forever since I heard it last," Delta answers. "Do... you mind if we move to a more comfortable stretch of counter?"

[maine_makes_growly_noises]

"Not at all."

Delta's so light, it's easy to lift him in his arms and lead him to a wider section of counter. Maine briefly considers the couch again but decides against it. This is new and exciting. No reason to rush away from it.

Delta laughs as Maine picks him up. Who even knew that could be wonderful?

"You're so strong."

[maine_makes_growly_noises]

Maine can't help but laugh himself, can't resist kissing those laughing lips. "Strong for you," he promises when he's done.

"Strong before me," Delta laughs. "Like you using it for me."

[maine_makes_growly_noises]

"Much better reason," Maine concedes. He prefers having someone to protect, someone to care for, than--well, than doing what he did as a show of strength, just because he could. He never wants to go back to those days.

[protective_logic]

"I wish I never had to leave this moment," Delta whispers. The whole world out there is going crazy and he just wants his boyfriend at his side. He wants to feel that they are both alive.

[maine_makes_growly_noises]

"So stay?" Maine asks. "Make it last ask long as we can?"

[protective_logic]

"It could never last long enough," Delta admits, reaching up to rub Maine's head again.

[maine_makes_growly_noises]

"No," he says, "but I'd like to try anyway."

He doesn't want to go. For now, he has no reason to. He'll try his best to keep it that way, for Delta's sake and for his own.

"Don't leave," Delta whispers. God he's just perfect. So Delta pulls him closer, grabs him by his belt loops and pulls him closer. As close as he does.
