Log: Another Night with Alien

Sigma cleans the kitchen when he's done preparing tomorrow's dinner. If Omega wants to cook the mac and cheese here, he'll have full use of the facilities. More importantly, Sigma wants him to be impressed.

So he didn't have time to vacuum the living room (or a vacuum with which to do the vacuuming). At least his textbooks have been put away (or on his bed, to be put back on the table when his guests leave). His apartment looks presentable. Cozy, even.

Now he just needs his guests.

"I have colas and lemonades," he says. "And even some grape soda. They're all in the fridge."

The shoulder isn't a bad idea. Puma still doesn't want to move, though, so Sigma has to stand with the kitten still cradled against his chest.

Louisiana winds up leaning against the counter since Omega wants to cover things. "Soda would work fine for me, merci," she answers.

Scout gets more petting as she tries to stay out of the way. He seemed to be enjoying the attention despite Louisiana not knowing what else to do. Sigma and Puma got along good so he had been a good choice as a possible sitter after all.

Omega sets the table quickly, even remembering to give nobody kiddie forks. Drinks poured, food on the table, he gives Louisiana and Sigma an exaggerated bow. "Dinner is served."

"Thanks, Meg." He makes his way to the table and sits, shifting Puma into his lap. The kitten mews in protest but doesn't hop down. "This smells great. Who knew Mac and cheese could be this good?"

"And you tell me you aren't a dork, 'cuda," she teases. Louisiana takes up a seat and gently removes Scout from her shoulder. The kitten is set down to explore the apartment. "I had no doubts that this was going to be good. Definitely going to be better than the microwave kind."

Omega swings into his own chair, next to Louisiana. "Everything I make is good. But Sigma helped with the cutting. Nobody home I trust with a knife as much as Sigma."

Sigma blushes at the praise. "Thanks," he says, "though you have to give Wash some of the credit for that."

While he's distracted, Puma becomes interested in the smells on the table and leaps up to investigate Sigma's dinner. "Sis, your animal's out to eat my food!" Laughing, he snatches at the kitten and restores Puma to his lap.

"Glad to know that knife training is paying off if only in the kitchen. Well you need to keep a better eye on him then, Dean," Louisiana chides.

She checks on the other kitten and is satisfied to see that Scout is keeping himself entertained with a catnip mouse. That and a rather large dust bunny he managed to uncover. He was going to be so dusty when she has to pick him up.

Omega notices the nickname, Sigma's real name, but he doesn't comment on it. It's good, though, that Sigma has a friend, one that isn't York's. "Can cats eat cheese?" he asks Louisiana. "Is it dangerous for them?"

Sigma looks at Omega for a moment and is surprised to see that his brother is okay with the names. He seems fine. If Sigma were in trouble, he'd know it. He relaxes--except for the hand that rubs Puma's back, keeping him content.

"I'm trying. Little guy has a mind of his own," Sigma says.

The name 'Dean' was almost as easy to use as 'Sigma' was with all of the training and time spent together. Besides it takes a moment for Louisiana to realize that she had said it aloud. Usually it was just the two of them. Omega seemed fine with it and Sigma did as well.

"Still need to keep an eye on him. He'll try to outsmart you when it comes to food," she points out. "But cats can't have too much cheese. They can't handle lactose so a lot of it could make them sick."

Why is Sigma looking at him like he was going to flip a table? And if Sigma is allowed to call her Sis, he's definetly allowed to call Florida Dad. "So no cream? Cartoons lie."

"Of course cartoons lie. I've been telling you that for years," he teases. Thankfully, Puma has settled down in his lap. Sigma starts eating. "Okay, this really is good, Meg."

"They can have some as a treat every once in a while but not a all day, every day sort of deal." Louisiana starts on her own plate. Puma wasn't trying to climb back onto the table however she lost sight of Scout.

Sigma wasn't wrong. It was actually pretty good.

Omega tries some, and yeah. This is one of his better meals. He'll have to make it for the family some time. "Well, hun? Does it pass muster?"

He loads his fork with vegetables and macaroni and is about to take a bite when something brushes up against his leg. At first, he ignores it, but something sharp pricks through his jeans.

"Ow! What--"

He looks down to find Scout trying to paw his way up his leg. "Oh, so you like me after all, little guy? Sorry. My lap's full."

"It does," Louisiana answers. She pauses briefly to smirk over at Sigma who seems to be getting swarmed at the moment. "Really nicely done, 'cuda."

[baruthumos]

Omega smiles at her. He'll have to cook for her more often. "Good. And I see Sigma is smuggling catnip in his pockets."

[ambitious_muse]

"I am not!" He tries to move his leg away, but Scout has already latched onto his jeans and started climbing. The movement disturbs Puma, who peers out of Sigma's lap. His fur puffs up noticeably and his ears swivel to point in different directions. Somehow, Sigma doesn't think this is going to end well.

"Uh, I think your cats are about to--"

Louisiana puts down her fork with a sigh. "My cats are going to do what?"

Omega tilts his head at Puma. "That is not the face of a happy camper," he observes.

Scout hisses up at Puma, who bats at his ears to try to keep him down. Claws are out: Sigma can feel them through his jeans. He tries to scoot back his chair but can't for fear of hitting Scout on the leg of the table or dislodging Puma despite the claws in his legs.

"Ow. Okay, they're definitely fighting."

No, not good. Louisiana pushes herself out of her chair and rushes over to Sigma. Sure enough the two kittens were hissing and swinging at each other. Placing a gentle hand around Scout, she starts to work him off of the jeans.

"No guys stop. Look both of you will get attention, alright," Louisiana says. Scout lets out a final growl before giving up and bundling himself in her arms. "Sorry about that."

"Are they brothers?" Omega asks. "They'll learn to get along." He's okay with not holding a cat. Means he gets to eat.

"No, that's--it just surprised me, that's all."

With Scout gone, Puma settles down. Sigma skritches behind those ears with his free hand. Poor disgruntled kitten. He'll have to look out for that in the future.
