Log: Another Night with Alien

Sigma cleans the kitchen when he's done preparing tomorrow's dinner. If Omega wants to cook the mac and cheese here, he'll have full use of the facilities. More importantly, Sigma wants him to be impressed.

So he didn't have time to vacuum the living room (or a vacuum with which to do the vacuuming). At least his textbooks have been put away (or on his bed, to be put back on the table when his guests leave). His apartment looks presentable. Cozy, even.

Now he just needs his guests.

Omega goes straight to the grocery store after the hospital, picks up the stuff for dinner and some snacks. Popcorn, and potato chips and salsa that has actual char marks printed on the label. And ice cream. The kind with three flavors in the carton.

He remembers the way to Sigma's apartment. Should he knock? He always knocks on bedroom doors, but this isn't a bedroom and Beta doesn't knock. He'll settle for texting Sigma that he's here and the ice cream's melting.

The ice cream is melting? Sigma hurries to the door and opens up. "Good timing," he says. "I just finished up in the kitchen. It's all yours. Here, let me help you with that."

He reaches for several of the bags, curious to see what Omega has brought.

Omega hands over the snacks and ice cream. "Here, do you have room in your freezer?"

The floor needs to be vacuumed, badly -or maybe not, since nobody's playing on the floor. It makes Omega feel better, though, since it means Sigma never realized at home when it needed it. Never willingly left it for someone else.

"Have you heard from Lou yet?"

"Plenty," he says. It's hard to fill a freezer when you're the only one at home.

"She'll be over in a bit. We have plenty of time to make dinner." Of course he's going to help. That's the nice thing about this counter: he can do things without getting in the way.

"Good," Omega says. "Let me get my helmet off. I brought all the software, but we'll need hardware."

Cooking is not Omega's favorite thing to do, but they'll manage.

Sigma puts the ice cream away but stashes the snacks on the counter. "I got out a mixing bowl and the casserole dish already," he says. "They're on the counter by the oven."

"We'll need measuring cups and spoons, a pot for the stove, wooden spoon, knife," Omega says once his helmet is stowed "Not wooden."

They're making it from scratch. And if they have groceries left over, well.

"Pots are to the left of the stove," he says. He starts going through the drawers for the rest of the utensils.

Omega finds some pots and starts the macaroni. "Here, you chop the cheese and the vegetables. I'll start the roux and preheat the oven."

It's strange to not have Theta there, stranger than the different kitchen.

"Yes sir." He pulls out the cutting board and gets to the one job he does best: slicing. Probably because that's the only thing his brothers trust him to do.

"And the pasta, can you handle that?" Omega's standing right there in case of fire. "Where's your fire extinguisher?"

[ambitious_muse]

"Hmmm? Sure. Hang on." He moves to the part of the counter closest to the stove so he can monitor the pasta. "Extinguisher's under the sink."

He's not going to get irritated. It's a safety question.

Omega nods and goes back to the cheese sauce. "So I'm sure you've heard about Oquirrh."

Louisiana keeps a tight grip on the carrier and sighs softly. After the argument yesterday, she was reluctant to show up here. She had no idea how things were going to go with Omega. Plus she was throwing two kittens into the mix. So far this wasn't exactly turning out to be the best idea of a night.

Regardless she ignores the doubt. She had an obligation after all and it wouldn't hurt to try to have fun. So she knocks on the door, waiting to be allowed in.

The knock on the door must be Louisiana. Sigma excuses himself and strides to the door.

Sure enough, there she is--with a giant box in tow that looks an awful lot like an animal carrier.

"Hey, Louisiana," he says. "Do you need help with that?"

"Salut and no I don't really. Actually what I need help is putting these two guys somewhere out of the way. I don't want them to be trouble but I couldn't leave them alone back at the hotel. It's bad enough having to sneak them in and out so much," Louisiana sighs, rubbing the back of her neck.

A couple of soft mews leave the container. The kittens obviously wanting out.

"These--" He peeks in the top of the carrier. Two kittens look up at him from inside, one a tiny calico and the other pale with tan tips.

"You adopted kittens?" He doesn't mean to squeak. Ugh, he sounds like Wash. Trying to recover, he says, "You know, a few months ago, the image of a mercenary adopting these two would've totally thrown me for a loop."

Louisiana gives a soft laugh. "Yea blame Maine on this one actually. He's kind of like co-owner with me for them but they're mostly mine."

She heads into the apartment and sets the carrier down by the door. Something smelled good in here. Omega must be cooking. "I wasn't exactly expecting myself to get a pet here anyway. I just got attached to these two. The calico is named Scout and the big guy is named Puma."

"Can I meet them?" he asks, excited. "Omega's finishing the mac and cheese. We have a minute."

[spectre_de_la_mort]

"Yea sure," she nods. Louisiana works on the carrier's door and slowly opens it. The two kittens at the back of it confused and slightly puffed out. "It might be a second or two before they come out. They're still not used to the whole moving around part."

Sigma sits down on his haunches to peer inside the carrier. "So I just. Wait?"

Then what? He can't remember the last time he interacted with an actual kitten. Wash's cats have been somewhat aloof.

"Pretty much."

Louisiana crouches down by the carrier, ready to coax them out. However Scout had other ideas. The tiny calico shoots out of the carrier and scrambles across the floor. Puffed out to extremes, he stares at Sigma and does a couple swings at him before realizing things were more interesting in the kitchen and runs for it at top speed.

Omega swears, loudly, when the tiny blur zooms past where he's taking the macaroni out of the oven. Once the hot pan is safely out of reach, he scoops up the ball of fur and brings it back to the living room. "Sparky, you got a rat problem."

"That's not a rat, it's a kitten." He stands up quickly, nearly hitting his head on the counter, and is relieved to see that Omega has intercepted the little creature before it got into trouble. "And there's another one. It just doesn't want to come out yet."

Content that Omega has the kitten in hand, he sits in front of the carrier again. "I assume that one was Scout?"

Louisiana manages to slowly coax Puma to the front of the carrier. He turns into a cat loaf though and stares up at the two Ai brothers. She sighs softly before picking him up. "Neither of them are rats. One of them is more of a wild one than the other. Scout does not have an energy deficiency at all."

"But this one is Puma. He tried to climb up Maine at the shelter," she adds.
