Per Sigma's suggestion, Delta's prompting, and Omega's invitation, tonight is the first night Maine is welcomed back into the lives of the Ais. Dinner is set for an hour after Maine is due to arrive, giving him plenty of time to socialize, and there are board, card, and video games out in the family room for before dinner if needed and after dinner indeed. Everything is ready for the friend to be welcomed back by a joyful family.

"Iota, do you think you can take this to her?" Sigma hands his brother the last small pillow from the couch.

'Yeah!' He takes the pillow and holds it tightly as he carefully makes his way over the sofa and down onto the first cushion. He jumps onto the second cushion and then holds out the pillow for Eta.

The twins are a frighteningly good team. The best part of their working together, though, is that he gets to snuggle up next to York.

Eta takes the pillow, sets it down, and hops onto it. "I can reach!" She announces.

York grins and shifts over on the couch to fit better with Sigma. A nice couple of minutes together watching the twins.

'That's great, Eta!' he cheers. 'You can save them now!'

"Pass me Ryan, E!" Iota is practically jumping up and down on his cushion. "Careful!"

'Don't fall in the lava!' York calls as Eta grabs the lion and passes him back to Iota, then picks up Samson for herself.

"Be careful!" Sigma says. "But hurry, get them back to safety!"

Iota looks at his brother with a smile, but those blue eyes are wide and serious.

There's such young intelligence in those eyes, it's wonderful.

York smiles as Iota starts back towards them, carefully hopping over the cushions with Ryan in his arms. Eta is close behind.

Sigma opens his arms to his brother when Iota clambers to safety. Iota nestles against him, clinging Ryan close.

"Did we forget anything else?" Sigma asks Eta.

'Nope!' Eta decides after carefully looking around the room once she's back on the couch. 'Everything's safe as long as no one else comes into the room. Then they'll have to be careful!'

"So how do we make sure nobody else comes in?" he asks. "York, what will we do? I don't want my family to burn up!"

The twins gasp. 'No burning family!'

'Don't worry, we'll make sure they're safe,' York says. 'We can put cushions down for them.'

[ambitious_muse]

"We always keep family safe," Sigma says. "Can we get to the chair and grab the blanket? That'll protect lots of the floor."

[depthlesslock]

'That's a good idea. Twins, can you reach the blanket?'

[ambitious_muse]

"Yeah!" Eta says. Iota nods fervently. They take off again, this time to pick up and rearrange the cushions. Sigma grins a bit smugly, proud of this little bit of distraction.

With the twins off making the room safe for anyone else coming in, York settles down next to Sigma again, grinning at him and occasionally calling encouragement to the twins.

"Careful, E, don't knock over Io with that pillow!"

They're so cute when they're working together. Sigma grins fondly at them. And at York. Then back to them.

Eta quickly grabs her twin's wrist with a cry of "I'll save you!" before he loses his balance. Iota yelps, but manages to hold on and dutifully thanks her for saving him.

They dropped the pillow in their confusion, but that's all right. At least they're "safe." Working together, they rescue the pillow and continue constructing their new pathway.

'Good job, guys!' York calls, clapping them as they get the pillow back. They're doing so well together, and from their expressions, they're enjoying it too.

Sigma laughs and cuddles closer to him. "We should steal the blanket," he whispers.

Eta hands a pillow to Iota, who moves it over toward the new path across the "lava."

He snickers. 'And ruin their carefully constructed bath?' he whispers back. 'We should.'

[ambitious_muse]

"We can't leave them stranded," he says. "Make sure to leave pillows for them."

Because he's a tease, but he isn't mean.

[depthlesslock]

'Make it a bit of a challenge for them.' See if they can figure out the new path. He shifts over and reaches down to steal the blanket.

Sigma helps him tug the blanket up and over their legs, then waits to see how long it takes the twins to notice the interference.
