Per Sigma's suggestion, Delta's prompting, and Omega's invitation, tonight is the first night Maine is welcomed back into the lives of the Ais. Dinner is set for an hour after Maine is due to arrive, giving him plenty of time to socialize, and there are board, card, and video games out in the family room for before dinner if needed and after dinner indeed. Everything is ready for the friend to be welcomed back by a joyful family.

That the twins cheer and rush over to him when they see him makes all his worries drop away for a moment as he crouches down to hug them.

'Hey, guys, how are you both doing? You're not gonna actually cook me, right? I won't be able to teach you new games if you cook me.' They laugh.

"I don't wanna eat him," Eta says. "Delta already cooked!" Iota shakes his head, giggling.

Good. Sigma's the only one allowed to eat York, and he's certainly not doing it in front of his family.

"What are we gonna play?" Eta asks.

He knows that look on his boyfriend's face, and he's going to look back at the twins now before he starts grinning.

'Well, I brought string if you guys want to play Lasers, or there's plenty of cushions in case of a sudden eruption causing the floor to become lava. Or we could draw or think of something else.'

"Lava!" Iota requests.

At least it's not lasers. Their brothers might not be too happy if they made a big mess before dinner.

"Uh oh, the floor is lava?" Sigma says. "Quick! Piggybacks to safety! We have to swim for it, York!" He scoops up Eta and heads toward the couch.

'Gotta be quick!' He grabs the already giggling Iota and quickly sits down on the couch, grateful that he's already taken his shoes off.

'Phew, that was close! You okay, there, Io? Didn't get burned?'

'Nope!'

"Okay! Everyone safe?" Sigma asks.

"Yeah!" Eta proclaims.

He spies Ryan and Samson over on the desk and shakes his head. "Oh no! We forgot someone! Who's going to rescue them?"

'Me!' Both twins cry at the same time. York grins.

'Okay, but you gotta wait while we make a safe path for you, or you'll burn,' he warns, grabbing a pillow off the couch and dropping it onto the floor, then reaching for another one.

Sigma scoops Iota into his lap and swipes the cushion that he had previously sat on. "Do you think we'll have enough pillows?"

'Should do, we can use the couch cushions if we have to,' he says, taking the pillow and dropping it a bit further out than the first one.

This next pillow will have to go a little further out. Sigma tosses it into position and undershoots it a little. "Oops. That one might need to go further out into the lava," he says. "Who wants to move it?"

'I'll do it!' Eta says, already beginning to scramble over the couch.'

'Watch your step,' York says. They've spaced the other cushions so the twins will be able to get from one to another.

Iota wiggles on the couch, watching his twin with wide eyes. It's too bad there isn't enough room to get both twins out on the "lava" at once.

Eta hops onto the first cushion with no difficulty, and is more careful as she jumps to the second, her small face scrunched up with concentration. Iota cheers when she makes it and York also claps. Then she carefully pushes the third cushion further out.

Sigma cheers along with them. "Think you can reach the desk, Eta?" he asks. "Or do you need more pillows?"

Eta jumps to the third cushion and reaches for the desk.

'Need more,' she says.

"Iota, do you think you can take this to her?" Sigma hands his brother the last small pillow from the couch.

'Yeah!' He takes the pillow and holds it tightly as he carefully makes his way over the sofa and down onto the first cushion. He jumps onto the second cushion and then holds out the pillow for Eta.

The twins are a frighteningly good team. The best part of their working together, though, is that he gets to snuggle up next to York.

Eta takes the pillow, sets it down, and hops onto it. "I can reach!" She announces.

York grins and shifts over on the couch to fit better with Sigma. A nice couple of minutes together watching the twins.

'That's great, Eta!' he cheers. 'You can save them now!'

"Pass me Ryan, E!" Iota is practically jumping up and down on his cushion. "Careful!"

'Don't fall in the lava!' York calls as Eta grabs the lion and passes him back to Iota, then picks up Samson for herself.

"Be careful!" Sigma says. "But hurry, get them back to safety!"

Iota looks at his brother with a smile, but those blue eyes are wide and serious.

There's such young intelligence in those eyes, it's wonderful.

York smiles as Iota starts back towards them, carefully hopping over the cushions with Ryan in his arms. Eta is close behind.

Sigma opens his arms to his brother when Iota clambers to safety. Iota nestles against him, clinging Ryan close.

"Did we forget anything else?" Sigma asks Eta.

'Nope!' Eta decides after carefully looking around the room once she's back on the couch. 'Everything's safe as long as no one else comes into the room. Then they'll have to be careful!'
