Nida, invited over and with express orders to see that Theta behaves and starts his packing for the family's move, waits at the door after he's rung the bell. In his hands rests a box of assorted cookies from the store bakery, in his backpack some games in case the littlest ones he's heard about need distracted, and on his lips a small smile. Finally he can check in on the little guy for real.

'I help look after them sometimes,' he says. 'D said I was old enough to be trusted after I stopped Eta trying to get in the oven.'

"Uh, yeah," Nida says, shocked. "Yeah, that's important too."

'She was really little, she didn't know it was dangerous.' He feels the need to point that out. 'Does that count as discipline?'

[skyward_eyes]

"I think self-discipline is more you come home from school and no one has to tell you to do homework or watch over you to make sure you did it. You do your homework, make your bed, all those kinds of things, because you know you need to do it."

'That sounds hard.' Sure he makes his bed, but it's mostly because Omega would get annoyed if he didn't. And he does his homework, but he doesn't want to.

"It is," Nida agrees. He can remember how hard it was for him. Learning it must be even harder if your weren't raised like he was.

'How long does it take?' He's been making his bed sincce he had his own and Omega still has to remind him sometimes.

[skyward_eyes]

"It's... more than that in my experience," Nida notes. "Like... discipline is important. But the way it was taught to me was pretty serious. If you didn't do your bed in the morning, or you did it wrong, you did push-ups or have to clean bathrooms and stuff like that. In a military you need to know that everyone will obey, will do what they're supposed to do. They'll be where they're supposed to be. Predictability is important."

HOw do you explain it to a kid?

'So you're always learning it?' he asks. 'And you get punished if you don't do it right? What if you go back and do it right before the punishment? Do they let you off then?' He doesn't think he'd do very well in the military.

"I guess it's hard to explain," NIda says thoughtfully as he puts the clothes aside. "Let's get this put in a box. And do you have any nice stuff that you use as a decoration that is maybe a touch more fragile? We could put them in with clothes."

'Um... not really. Except the weather box.' He points to where he keeps it at the back of the desk where it can't easily fall or be knocked onto the floor.

"Alright," Nida smiles, moving to a box and starting to fill it with neat little piles. "While we're doing this it's probably important for you to consider what clothes you have that don't fit you. Because those should go in a box for your little sibligns."

'Oh, we've already done that,' he says. 'We go through stuff sometimes to see what desn't fit any more, or if I try to wear something and it doesn't fit then I give it to them.'

[skyward_eyes]

"Smart," he smiles and reaches out to ruffle Theta's hair. "That's a caring brother I see there."

He smiles and taps the next drawer. "Anything in here that should be packed?"

Theta smiles up at him from under the hair thats flopped into his eyes. 'Thanks. We've always done it in our family.'

Once he's brushed the hair out of his eyes, he scoots his box a bit close so he can look inside the drawer. 'Well I probably don't need all my socks and pants between now and moving, right? Some of them can get packed.'

[skyward_eyes]

That comment results in Nida giving the SeeD salute and he smiles as he takes out some socks and waits for the pants to be selected. "Your wish, sir,"

Theta giggles and tries to copy the salute. 'Excellent job!' Is that something they'd say? He reaches foward and takes out his pants, leaving enough to last him until they move, plus one spare.

Nida grins, refolds things and packs those too. "Thank you. You're so helpful, kid."

Mostly Theta's working together, and that is helpful as all hell.

'You're really helpful too,' he says, smiling. 'This would be really hard and boring on my own.'

[skyward_eyes]

"Of course, my lord of boxes," Nida laughs as he gets things packed away. "They taught me how to pack, and I want to help you."

'Thanks. I don't really know how pack.' Comes with never really going anywhere.

'If I'm the lord of boxes, what does that make you?'

[skyward_eyes]

"Your knight?" Nida suggests as he looks around the room. There seems to be a small collection of books, maybe school books, that might be older. "How about these?"

'The best knight,' he agrees, nodding. It's settled. 'Yeah, those can get packed. I'm not gonna use them until I go back to school.'

[skyward_eyes]

"I'll tell you about what knights of on my world sometime soon," he offers. "Other than that, why don't you come out of the box and help me pack your old skateboard things."

[trustandfireworks]

'You have knights?' he asks, completely ignoring the rest of what Nida said in his excitement. 'Like proper actual knights?'
