LOG: What You Get Folks

Who: Delta Ai (Native), Maine (Native), Omega Ai (Native)
What: Family bonding... with a middle man.
Where: Movie Theater at the Gulch Mall.

Warnings: Delta and Omega don't get along.

It is easier, of course, to do this apart. But the problem is that things aren't that easy anymore. They are having a problem with a lot of this. Having problems with a lot of things lately. But Maine was helping, and Delta is furious that Omega even brought the man into it. This was his boyfriend, and Omega's friend. They didn't need him in the middle of their squabble. And Delta definitely didn't need him to be here. But here, in the end, is where they are.

Delta waits outside of the theater, trying to ignore how uncomfortable he is in the open, waiting. Waiting for Omega. Waiting for his meddling boyfriend. Waiting for... well, something. Anything that proves he's getting better. That it's getting better. That he's not completely ruined.

"Anyone who names anything Kwazii is not allowed to say any other words sound weird," Omega says. "They are great books. All the sex is behind closed doors like civilized people."

Omega checks the sky, quickly, for some new disaster. Nope, still clear. "Are they making the next one, do you know? Because I miss the medic, I really do."

[maine_makes_growly_noises]

Ah yes, books. Maine knows how much Delta enjoys reading. "Guess I need to read them," he says.

"Oh god, the Kwazii," Delta groans. "Did the books really need sentient, gelatinous cubes? And yeah, it's not sexually in your face. I hate those books."

But he smiles at Omega. "So, if this movie does well enough, they're doing more of them, which means next time we WOULD get the medic. Who is, without argument, the BEST character in the whole damn series. And his friendship with the engineering chief? I want a friend I could be that close to. Anyway..."

He turns around and moves so that he's between his brother and Maine, walking in step with them. "Omega and I own the whole series between us."

"You could have one, they're practically lining up out the door," Omega says before he can stop himself.

Oops.

He's not actually sure how that statement would get him in trouble, except it is not part of the approved topics; the movie and the littles. So he says quickly, hopefully before anyone realizes what he said, "You mean you have them and I steal them."

[maine_makes_growly_noises]

"Might need to borrow one sometime," Maine says. He's over often enough, reading with Delta. These could be fun to read and discuss with the brothers.

[protective_logic]

Delta looks at his older brother, mystified. "Oh come on, the first book belongs to you. You're the one that got me into the series. Don't be like that. You practically thrust it into my hands when I was in middle school because you wanted to talk to someone about it."

Gleeful from the whole goings on, Delta unthinkingly goes for Maine's hand on one side, and to loop his arm around his brother's on the other. "Yanno, you and Maine kinda remind me of the medic and engineer. Though, I guess Maine's not a Caninid. Oh god that would be horrible. Maine's so big and if he shed it would be EVERYWHERE."

Oh good, nobody picked up on his slip. "Pretty sure I gave it to you outright in the great migration," Omega argues. "And I am far too tall to be Bones."

[maine_makes_growly_noises]

"Shed?" He's tremendously amused by that thought. "Need to read about this medic."

He doesn't draw attention to Delta's slip up. Finally, he gets to hold his hand.

[protective_logic]

"Omega is the medic," Delta grins at Maine before returning the better part of his attention to his brother. "Your name is still on the cover page. And who cares about how tall you are? Height isn't always important in casting. Come on, you're totally like Bones, with some minor personality alterations. We talked about this when we were younger. Remember the scene when Bones goes after that guy with a bonesaw because the asshole had tried to molest one of his crewmates and Bones found out? That is totally what you'd do."

[baruthumos]

"I would," Omega agrees. "But if I'm Bones and Maine is Cumminghams, who are you?"

He does not suggest Romanova, he is not quite that blatent about self-sabotage.

[maine_makes_growly_noises]

"Does sound like Omega," Maine agrees. The thought of Omega with a bone saw is somewhat terrifying.

[protective_logic]

"Uh..." Delta frowns at that question. "I don't know. I never really identified myself with a recurring character. At best it was that Qarthine diplomat, Ji'tian, who Captain Anders had to deal with."

[baruthumos]

Omega thinks about this for a minute. "I think you're more of a Kinkajou, really."

There, safe topic and high praise. Pile it on some more, Delta certainly needs it. Ten times better than a remora.

[maine_makes_growly_noises]

He doesn't know what that means, but he squeezes Delta's hand affectionately. He never considers Delta to be someone he has to "deal with."

[protective_logic]

"Kinkajou as in those fuzzy little primates on Old Earth?" Delta chuckles, barely registering the squeeze of his hand. "I suppose that's a good fit. Though the nocturnal..."

[baruthumos]

"No, Kinkajou as in ...am I remembering his name wrong? Third book, about where the mysterious stain is, shows up and gets them out of jail? Did we ever figure out what that stain was?"

Omega's pretty sure it's chocolate, and therefore Delta's fault.

[maine_makes_growly_noises]

Maine knows exactly what a kinkajou is and can almost see that fitting. He smiles at the thought.

[protective_logic]

Oh. Delta chuckles, shaking his head. "I never thought to pronounce it like that. Yea, I could kind of see that. But he's so much more confident and active than I've ever been."

[baruthumos]

"Pretty sure he was faking it, D," Omega says. "And equally sure you do more in a morning than he does in a week."

Omegs tries to help. But Delta leaves him so little to do.

[maine_makes_growly_noises]

He has a fairly good idea how busy Delta's mornings are, given how early they wake up to get him home on Thursdays.

"Just because we don't see more action in the books for Kinkajou, doesn't mean he isn't active."

Busy doesn't even begin to discuss how his life is these days. He'd down to less than six hours of sleep a night, but it was what it was.

[baruthumos]

Omega raises an eyebrow, but in the name of being a better brother, he doesn't say anything.

Which leaves him with nothing safe to say.

[maine_makes_growly_noises]

"Side character?" Maine asks. "Those are often most interesting."

[protective_logic]

Well, the silence from Omega makes Delta think he'd something wrong. But he doesn't even know what. Maybe if he just keeps talking it won't be so bad?

"The series makes interesting side characters. But it's the secondary characters, the ones that are a step below the main cast and worlds above the side characters, that really make the setting."

[baruthumos]

"Like Dani," Omega puts in. "The helicopter pilot. She appears and disappears and comes back, but she does things when she's gone. She doesn't just wait patiently for the story to come back to her."

Which explains Church, come to think of it.
